Episode 024

I had to allow my father's death to transcend my life, I couldn't let it define me

with Mike Kostantakis

Mike is unlike anybody I've ever met. He pushes himself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually in ways I've only really read about.

In 2019, unfortunately, Mike's dad passed away. They were very close and his dad's death pushed Mike to reflect often and deeply about his life.

Who have I been? Who I am now? Who do I want to become?

Mike's dad was a huge inspiration and Mike was determined to carry on his dad's legacy while also building his own.

Every year since 2019, Mike has created and completed something so far outside his comfort zone that many wouldn't even think about doing it. These are meant to push him in ways he expects and in ways that surprise him in an effort to discover who he really is and what he's really made of. He also wants to show others what is possible and to inspire them to challenge themselves.

As you're listening to the episode, I encourage you to think about what you could do to challenge yourself in one or more aspects of your life. For me, I've been thinking about completing an ultramarathon for a couples years now. As I'm typing this, I'm committing to signing up for and participating in one in December of this year (stay tuned!).

In this episode, Mike talks about:

  • The influence his grandfather had in his childhood

  • The legacy of his father and why he looks up to him so much

  • Who he was as a person before his father's death

  • Why his father passing was such a pivotal moment

  • Committing to a life of growth and self discovery

  • A few of the challenges he's completed, including:

    • Doing 10,000 squats in one month

    • Running 65 miles in 28 hours on his dad's 65th birthday

  • Why he continues to do these incredible challenges

  • How David Goggins has inspired him to push passed his perceived limits
