Episode 028

An open, honest, transparent conversation about our first year of marriage

Coffee Date w/ Me and the Mrs.

Welcome to EP 028 of the CVD podcast and the first ever Coffee Date podcast between me and my wife, Shelby 💛

Give this episode a listen and DM me or Shelby to let us know what was most helpful or what you want to hear more of. We love to hear from you and want to know how we can bring you the most value ❤️

Shelb and I have coffee dates every Friday morning - 6 hours of uninterrupted quality time to check in with each other, talk about our goals and aspirations, bring up anything that's been on our minds, and learn how we can be a better partner ☕️

Every year, on our wedding anniversary, we record an episode reviewing the year we just experienced. Our goal to share our open, honest, transparent conversation to inspire and help others around the world (whether you're single, dating, married, or divorced).

This isn't about what's right or wrong, what you should or shouldn't do - it's just a conversation about what we've experienced and what we've found to be helpful (and unhelpful). Take a little, take a lot, or take nothing at all - totally up to you! ❤️

This Coffee Date was recorded last year and covers our first year of marriage. We talk about:

  • Living with another couple, a 5-year-old, and a newborn

    • The ups, downs, and challenges of coexisting

    • How our mental health and sex life were impacted

    • The need for quietness and solitude

  • The challenges we’ve encountered with intimacy

    • Why living with roommates led to less frequent sex

    • How less sex impacted other forms of intimacy and my love tank

    • Why Shelby’s brain was telling her not to engage in intimacy or sex

  • The importance of knowing your partner’s love language

    • What they are and why they matter

    • How they help us communicate & how they led to our Coffee Dates

  • Receiving advice from others

    • Why “you’ll figure it out when you’re married” wasn’t good enough

    • Being curious doesn’t mean you need to accept every piece of advice

    • How asking others sparked many conversations for us
