Episode 027
Understanding why can help us uncover how to move forward
with Omar Hernandez
Omar Hernandez is all about community! This man thrives on bringing like-minded people together to make a positive difference and accomplish a common goal.
And community is one of the key elements that helped Omar out of one of the toughest times in his life...
The pandemic was difficult for so many of us in so many ways.
For Omar, he had just spent thousands of dollars and 18 months completing a master's program in Boston and San Francisco, and then:
the pandemic hits,
the world is shutting down,
people are feeling alone and isolated,
companies everywhere are firing or laying off hundreds of people,
he had 90 days to find a job or he'd be asked to leave the country, and
his 5-year relationship just ended.
His body froze and kept him from doing pretty much everything. Then, one day, he decided to sell his PlayStation and things started to slowly change.
In this episode, Omar talks about:
His experience at Hult Business School (both the bright and dark)
Why and how he created a hackathon with Code for Venezuela
Failing exams and being unsure if he'd graduate
Whether the sacrifice was worth it
How everything seemed to be crumbling when the pandemic hit
How he was affected mentally, physically, and emotionally
Why his body “froze” and what that was like
How podcasts and therapy helped him make sense of his situation
Why he started running and what that did for him
How Stoicism helped change his perspective
Why community is so important to him and how its absence affects him
How and why he became captain of a running club in New York
